The organization was founded on November 12, 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress August 20, 1954.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to, and representative of, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).
As members of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War we are mandated from the Grand Army of the Republic to preserve and promote Civil War history and the memory of those who served in it.
Our duties and activities include:
- Attending Memorial Services for Civil War Soldiers
- Registering graves of the soldiers in the National Organizations database
- Assisting family members identify and locate
their ancestor's place of burial
- Serve in these and other capacities in
the Ste. Genevieve and St. Francois County areas
